Dan Barrett (born March 16, 1980) is an American musician. He is a member of the rock duo Have a Nice Life. Outside of this, he has released solo work primarily under the names Giles Corey and Black Wing and has been involved in various short-lived bands. In 2003, he founded the record label Enemies List Home Recordings. Musical career Have a Nice Life Barrett composes one-half of the industrial post-punk duo Have a Nice Life, which he formed alongside Tim Macuga in 2000. The duo started their career by performing "morbid acoustic songs" at local open mic events, though it was not until the death of Barrett's father that they would start recording the songs. On a budget of less than $1,000, Have a Nice Life's debut came in 2008 with ''Deathconsciousness'', which John Hill of ''Noisey'' described as a mix of "shoegaze, noise, black metal, synthpop, drone, doom, and everything in between". Have a Nice Life is an American rock band founded in Middletown, Connecticut in 2000 by Dan Barrett and Tim Macuga. The duo is best known for their 2008 debut album '' Deathconsciousness'', which received little attention from professional music publications upon release but rose to "cult classic" status through its spread among online communities. Have a Nice Life began regularly performing with a full band in 2017, and their third album, '' Sea of Worry,'' was their first release to feature members of the live band. Slowcore, also known as sadcore, is a subgenre of indie rock characterised by its subdued tempos, minimalist instrumentation, and sombre vocal performances. Slowcore's influences are diverse, involving varying other genres, including folk rock, alternative rock, and dream pop. The collection contains contributions from artists such as Planning for Burial, Have a Nice Life, and Midwife among other bands, and was collated and released by the record label The Flenser. Background Mimi Jo Parker was born in 1967 near Bemidji, Minnesota. In primary school, Parker met Alan Sparhawk. The two would form Low in 1993, alongside bassist John Nichols. Low would help pioneer a genre of indie rock music that came to be known as "slowcore", and in so doing, garnered a significant reputation in the underground music scene. Low was an American indie rock band from Duluth, Minnesota, formed in 1993 by Alan Sparhawk (guitar and vocals) and Mimi Parker (drums and vocals). The band was a trio from 1993 to 2020, having featured four different bassists. Low disbanded following the death of Parker in 2022. The Stone (music Space)
The Stone is a not-for-profit experimental music performance space located in the Greenwich Village neighborhood in New York City. It was founded in April 2005 by John Zorn, who serves as the artistic director. It was named for the late Irving Stone, an "inveterate concertgoer" in the New York City music community.
